Field Trips and Other Excursions

You must be a member with currently paid dues and follow the Code of Ethics to participate in field trips.
What to bring on a field trip?
- Water, Water, Water.
- It’s very important to stay hydrated, especially in hot weather.
- Something to pry rocks and fossils out of the ground.
(A long screwdriver, a claw or rock hammer, a pry bar, or something like that.) - Something to put your items in.
(These could be plastic bags, boxes, a bucket, pill bottles…) - Wear sturdy shoes.
There could be lots of unsteady, sharp terrain where you’re looking! - Safety Vest
Bring a high visibility orange or yellow safety vest (these are required for trips along cutouts and road stops). - Eye protection.
The dust (and rock chips) can really fly. Better safe than sorry. - Magnifying glass.
Getting a good look at something helps in identification. - Personal gear:
Hat (to shade from the sun), suntan lotion, bug repellent.
